Coffee. Hamburger. Breakfast. Those three words grace the sign outside KK Cafe. However, the secret to this place’s enduring popularity goes much deeper than its simple signage implies. Here are a few more things that have kept people coming back since the early ‘90s.
- KK Cafe knows how to make a burger. And not just the beef variety. In 2011, SF Weekly gave KK Cafe the award for Best Homemade Veggie Burger. The chefs blend this faux-meat patty with carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, and radicchio.
- The owners are really friendly. Jack and Margaret Chang often know their customers by name.
- Regulars love the peanut milk. Thank you letters and newspaper clippings touting the benefits of this signature drink cover an entire walls. Many folks, including the owners, believe that the beverage helps detoxify the body, boost energize, and cure all sorts of ailments.
- The milk comes in different varieties. The Changs even make their peanut milk in special flavors such as chocolate and strawberry. Customers can also add it to fruit smoothies or coffee.
