There's people-watching and then there's dog-watching. At the Peet's Coffee and Tea on Polk Street in Russian Hill, a casual latte-sipper might run across more than a few leashes with cute puppies attached, while their owners stand in line for the usual caffeinated beverages and simple quick-service snacks. This is a neighborhood spot, after all, and while Peet’s is known as a large chain, it actually began across the bay in Berkeley, making them feel like a hometown favorite. And even in a city that is full of tasty one-off coffee options, there’s something satisfying about the simple café tables, easygoing décor and sunny attitude from the baristas – especially when all you’re craving is a large seasonal Mayan Chocolate Mocha amongst the menu staples.
