This was so fun, I had walked through China town and never knew about the the female zealot that saved over 3000 sex slaves and the meeting place for Mark Twain and others in Russian Hill area of town. I loved all the stories, restaurant tips and Ryan is a very sweet and intelligent guide. This is a 5 star tour not to miss.

Be ready to walk and climb and have the best experience of your life! As well as seeing so much, you will learn all about SF history, SF plant live & wild life, and so much more that you won't learn on other tours.

Ryan is excellent and very knowledgable. We did the Chinatown tour and just like he said we discovered places we didn't know existed. The views were magnificent. We will definitely be booking another of his tours

Loved this tour! Couldn't recommend it highly enough. We saw some really interesting and hidden aspects of San Fran that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. I went with a local and he learned a ton about his own city. Do this tour and get to know a more local side of SF!

PARKING: Sat. & Sun. $3 all day in selected garages participating in the Park & Ride program for Chinatown. Must get ticket stamped at INFORMATION BOOTH inside Ferry Building. Golden Gateway Garage @ 250 Clay participates: <www.goldengatewaygarage.net>. The Telegraph Hill/Waterfront tour is particularly quiet and beautiful. Ryan takes the steps at a leisurely rate with several stops. Traveling the steps up & down & around means few cars and tranquil gardens alongside the staircases. The four miles and three hours seemed to evaporate in a calm, peaceful ramble with fun modern facts and great historical tales.

Ryan/Roam Local was the single best way to "experience" the real San Francisco. Ryan's high energy, knowledge and enthusiasm is unsurpassed. Plan ahead by wearing comfortable shoes and be ready for walking, including steep hills & long staircases. (This review is for the Chinatown, Russian Hill & North Beach tour.) Thanks, Ryan!

From Our Editors

Ryan Curtis loves local history, sunshine, and exercise, and he just happened to be clever enough to combine all three into a career. As the owner of Roam Local, he offers?and leads?private and semiprivate walking tours that explore the hidden stairways, alleyways, and gardens of San Francisco. As groups walk, hidden terraces with stunning views as well as famous sights come into view, usually from unexpected angles. That perspective often creates stunning photo opportunities that can?t be found on postcards, such as the Golden Gate Bridge before it?s infused with its morning coffee. As your guide walks and talks, they supplement their information with an interactive iPad presentation and San Francisco?s other standout: its balmy weather.
