When you hear the phrase “one of the most versatile foods on the market”, there’s a good chance your mind may conjure images of chicken, beef, or cheese. It’s understandable, seeing as one (or all) of those ingredients find their way into almost every meal we encounter here in the United States. The Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival is on a mission to change that, working to reprogram dietary assumptions with an event that showcases the versatility, deliciousness, and health benefits of its namesake foods, as well as raise funds for the Nichi Bei Foundation—a Japanese American community organization.
To that end, they assemble a lineup of artisans and vendors on a mission to show the world how soy- and tofu-based tacos, burgers, and sweet treats can be every bit as delicious as their meat- and dairy-filled counterparts, if not more so. All the while, interactive games, live entertainment, and eating contests keep the good vibes going before the entire event culminates in a tofu-based dessert competition.
