Uber is not a taxi service. Instead, it’s a private-hire car app that connects passengers and drivers to create seamless journeys from door to door. During the ordering process, customers can choose the level of luxury in which they’d like to travel: UberX, Uber XL, UberEXEC and UberLUX represent three distinct levels of waft, refinement and style, from silent Toyota Priuses up to long-wheelbase 7 Series BMWs. By harnessing and monetising this pre-existing crosstown traffic, Uber has taken just five years to go from San Francisco venture-funded start-up to global operator. Their service is currently available across more than 300 cities in over 60 countries and has an estimated value of around $50 billion.
