Not all that long ago, the vacant and abandoned Bob Woolever's Tire Shop was an eyesore in the heart of Funk Town. Today, that building—which sits just two blocks from the beach in downtown Santa Barbara—has found second life as Oreana Winery. Though it is certainly part of the area's future, Oreana is also an ode to the past: its name is a term used by cattle ranchers for unbranded calves that stray onto neighboring properties, like renegade spirits of the ranching world.
Inspired by that free-spirited nature, Oreana Winery churns out more than 10,000 cases per year, anchored by an award-winning pinot program that has drawn praise from the likes of Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. Beyond its role as a fully functional winery, Oreana also thrives as a tasting room and wine shop. It utilizes all that space to host parties, too, punctuating many of those events with live music.
