SITE Santa Fe is nearing its 20th year as a cutting-edge art museum, and as most 20-year-olds do, its diving into the local dating scene. Its personal ads have been appearing in local papers, with missed connections such as:
"You may not know who I am. You drive past me every day. I see you browsing at the Farmer's Market and when you're strolling in Railyard Park. You won't miss me: I'm 18,000 square feet of creativity and fun... let's meet!"
Perhaps SITE Santa Fe is making advances because it feels misunderstood. After all, it's easy to look at its futuristic white-and-stucco exterior and wonder what kind of peculiar spectacles lie inside. But really, it's just a modern spin on the art museum, home to eclectic exhibits and an international biennial—the Southwest's answer to the Whitney and Venice Biennials.
Despite its imposing look, the museum is as friendly as its faux personal ad suggests. Its events calendar is overflowing with happenings that are appropriate for both insiders and newbies. The team wants it to stay this way, too, which is why it spends time reaching out to the community.
