The people who work there are very helpful. I love going there and wish I had more time and budget to allow me to buy a lot books.

I have not been to their store since they moved from their old location. The Groupon offer made me look to see exactly where the new location was and it made me aware of the second location in Hollywood. I may visit the second location as well, now that I know exactly where it is located. The Groupon offer got me reaquainted with this wonderful store. The selection is amazing!

The above mark is incorrect but I could not erase it! I go to H&I every once in a while, but I would not have gone exactly at this time but later since I just returned from abroad (but there was the deadline. ) I probably would have bought different books, too.

I will definitely come back, and probably buy a lot more books from here. It is a hidden gem with a store full of interesting, beautiful books, and it was so hard to choose how to use my Groupon. It is also a place you can spend hours, so don't come here if you are in a hurry.

From Our Editors

Hennessey + Ingalls's eclectic bookstore sells tomes covering visual arts, such as photography, as well as interior design, landscaping, fashion photography and architecture. The founding family still owns and manages its paper-based stock, ensuring that volumes remain well organized according to the length of authors’ moustaches. Originally founded in 1963 as a refuge for rare and out-of-print books, the massive store—the Santa Monica location spans 8,000 square feet—supplies vital reference materials for local architectural firms, museums, art galleries, and schools. Hennessey + Ingalls also runs a small publishing division, which produces and distributes six titles each year, most of which are reprints focusing on California's modernist architecture and postmodernist oil paintings of avocados. They also offer a large selection of journals and notebooks. Hennessey's bibliophiles also purchase good-condition used copies and rare editions from independent owners.
