A lot of fun! If you can, upgrade to the domed car for comfort and the awesome view.

Upgrading to the dome car is a must. Sitting in coach was nice but the view from the dome was unbelievable. The town of north creek is also very nice to wander about with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Book this experience asap!!

Make sure all the shops are open in the town before going. Otherwise we all had a great time and a beautiful trip.

Bring something to do or read. The scenery is OK but, in summer everything is green and you can't see much on West side of train. The dome seats (Diamond seating) appears to worth the upcharge as seats look more comfortable and views are better. Call the phone number or use email for reservations. They are awesome to talk to and respond very quickly.

Nice day, but unless you are on the river side of the train, there isn't much sight seeing going on. Lots of trees for most of the first hour. Just trees. North Creek is fun. Maybe a little too much time there. But we enjoyed the day.

I think it would have been more pleasant without the rain.

From Our Editors

The clean-burning, diesel-powered engines of the scenic Saratoga & North Creek Railway pull climate-controlled mid-century-style coaches and modern dome cars across both Saratoga and Warren County. The latter open onto panoramic vistas of the Adirondack foothills and the Great Sacandaga Lake as seen from the bridge that traverses it. And while the train may embrace the spirit of a bygone era, it doesn't scrimp on the creature-comforts that create for a relaxing sojourn. As passengers trundle along the seven-station journey, they can take in the view during a meal in the dining car or enjoy snacks from the comfort of their own seat.

The railway, which operates year-round, connects 56.5 miles of towns, villages, and hamlets that comprise the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor, allowing visitors an opportunity to explore historical and cultural activities along the rail route. Stops include Saratoga, Hadley and Lake Luzerne, Thurman, Riparius, Corinth, Stoney Creek, and the Glen Hudson Campground. Outdoor recreational activities throughout the Adirondacks include hiking, rafting, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The Saratoga & North Creek Railway also boasts daily Amtrak connections via the Saratoga Depot Station.
