One Ocean Diving and Research offers a realistic experience with the ocean's one of the most misunderstood predators. Guests are invited to participate in excursions into sharks' natural habitat, where their graceful movements and mysterious beauty can be observed up close. The tour supports the ongoing research, educational outreach, and conservation efforts both in Hawaii and internationally.
- The experience: Equipped with snorkel, masks, and fins, participants are guided into the water to snorkel and observe different species of sharks at a natural shark aggregation site. Guests can see how the animals interact with each other and observe the sharks' natural curiosity to the vessel in the water. Snorkels might also catch a glimpse of whales, dolphins, turtles, and large schools of fish.
- The education: The professionally-trained marine biologist and shark behavior specialist provides in-depth information on the sharks. Participants will find out about the way sharks use body language to communicate and about their significance in Hawaiian and Polynesian culture. Once everybody is on board the vessels, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the current research and what they can do to support shark and marine life conservation.
- The safety measures: The professionally-trained marine biologist and dive master provides instructions on how to safely swim around the sharks, and keeps an eye on them at all times to monitor their behavior while people are in the water.
