The pounding hooves of their steeds beneath them, players race toward the tumbling ball with cane mallets poised to strike. This action-heavy sequence can be witnessed throughout the year at Arizona Polo Club, where the mild weather allows for a crowded schedule of outdoor polo games. But just in case players need to get out of the desert heat, the club is also home to an indoor space perfect for scrimmages and lessons. Beginners as young as 10 are invited to enroll in the polo school, where classes focus on playing techniques, the history of the polo shirt, and depictions of horses in 19th-century literature.
