The Gerald: A User’s Guide
- Appetizer: fried cheese curds with sriracha-infused ketchup and mustard aioli
- Small plate: Dottie’s mac and cheese
- Entree: maple chicken waffle sliders
- Cocktail: Draper Point (bourbon, black tea, sweet vermouth, apricot liqueur, and angostura bitters)
Where to Sit If you’re going with a large group or are planning a private event, request seating in the spacious back room. If you’re with no more than few friends, stick to the front, where you can snag a table or booth facing the roll-down screen broadcasting a sports game. Otherwise, sidle up to the bar and watch the mixologists work their magic.
When to Go Visit during one of the two daily happy hours (4 p.m.–6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.–close) to score cheap apps and discounts on select craft cocktails. Weekend brunches bring sweet and savory snacks, plus special hangover cures such as the Hair of the Cat—made with mezcal, citrus, serrano chile, and egg whites.
While You’re Waiting: Admire the ‘60s-inspired decor—heavy on the plaid, wood panels, and hexagons. Or, fix your beehive ‘do in one of the many mirrors.
Inside Tip: “The Gerald is a great place to ‘trust your bartender,’’” writes Worlds Best Bars. Simply describe your tastes, and the bartender will whip something up just for you.
