Q&A with Jeanie Miller, Owner, Facilitator Of Healing, Massage Therapist
Do you agree with the phrase "beauty is on the inside?" Why or why not?
Yes. Healing also starts from the inside out. When you feel good about how your body works, you feel good about yourself.
How did you get started in the beauty industry? Did you have an "ah-ha" moment in life?
I was searching for something. I knew, deep down, there was something more out there for me. Something that felt like I was doing good. I researched a few options, including speech therapy, but found that it would take too long to go to school, and too much money, and the program was being eliminated from LSU-S. I heard an ad on the radio about Blue Cliff School of Massage Therapy. They were holding an informational orientation, so I went. The first time I put my hands on someone to practice a massage stroke, I knew this was what I was meant to do. It did not feel strange to me, or uncomfortable. It made sense to me. I seemed to be able to feel where someone had pain, and could ease it. I signed up for the school that very day. The feeling I had when I left was, well all I can describe it as is "glowing from the inside out." I wanted to make other people feel that way.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Most people, when presented with a disease in their bodies, look to a medical professional. That is good—something seriously could be wrong. But the mistake I see people make is looking to their doctor to fix it all for them, they don't ask questions. The don't realize that they have a big role in their own healing, and have to take charge of their treatment. Massage and bodywork, including reflexology, guide the body's own natural instinct to balance itself, to heal itself.
