This was a complete sham. I flew up from Florida (not for this event) and wanted to show friends a good time and thought this would be a great experience to start our Boston trip. I pre-ordered the VIP tickets which was to include a food buffet at Game On! and that never happened. Actually, I did not see any food available that was included in my ticket (although I did not complete all the bars on the trip in all fairness so maybe there were some but the 15 I did go to did not have any food available). Also, they said that there would be beer specials which only one bar of 15 actually had beer specials. So, I would never purchase the Boston Beer Marathon tickets in the future. You can save your money and just do the bars on your own and donate the money you would have spent on the ticket and give that portion to charity. Unless you simply want to buy a crappy t-shirt. There was no difference between the "VIP experience" as they falsely claim and the regular admission tickets.

My brothers and I purchased 4 tickets as part of his bachelor party. We went to Game On! to redeem the Vikings helmet and tee shirt and were told that they were there earlier but left already. We were unable to redeem our tickets, receive the helmet, tee shirt, or take advantage of the discounts. It was very unfortunate and a fair amount of money wasted, not to mention the let down during my brothers bachelor party.

Very poorly organized! It would have been less expensive and better organized if I just went bar-hopping on my own. Was informed by others participating in the Beer Marathon that the event has declined drastically over the past few years. This was my first Pub Crawl and I left highly disappointed. I feel like my money was taken and the items I was to get in return were not provided.

Essentially I donated $60 to MS (which I don't mind). However, the general admission tickets basically get you a t-shirt and nothing else! Our tickets stated depending on scheduling we would be able to bat in the Red Sox practice bating cage. When we went to participate we were told we couldn't because we didn't have VIP tickets even though the general admission and VIP tickets stated the same thing (in regards to the batting cage). We went to a handful of the bars on the marathon map and gave up because everyone said they were not affiliated with the marathon. One waitress even made a comment that it seems multiple people were tricked into thinking we would recieve discounts at bars that were unaware they were participating in a marathon. Great concept but poorly executed. If I didn't know my money was going towards a good cause I would be more upset. I wouldn't recommend this. Just join a free bar crawl because either way you will be spending the same amount of money on beer and food!

Would be helpful if the Groupon voucher contained the information that you have to go downtown between 11-1 to pick up your shirt and hat, and that each person has to do it (a friend can't pick up for you). Without them it's not as fun, plus you can't get the specials, but it turns out most places on the list that we stopped at didn't have any specials anyway. Also it would help if they suggest a start time. We went at 6:00pm and there was no one around, apparently they went earlier. Felt a bit silly sitting in a bar the only one with a Viking hat. Didn't know it was a daytime drinking event. They don't have printed maps of places on marathon, had to take a photo of the map and try to read it on phone. The Viking hat is supposed to light up but it was broken from the start.

7 Years ago this was a GREAT beer marathon. This year (2017) it was a poor attempt at organizing a city wide bar tour. What happened to the crowds of people? Even at registration the place was empty.

Good time no deals along the way and zero swag! But it proceeds hopefully went to charity so it's not a loss...and a few asked if we were doing the beer crawl and refused us entry even though we were not drinking or had been drinking for several hours completely fine

From Our Editors

Marathon runners spend months or longer preparing their bodies for the 26.2-mile race. In that respect—and maybe in others—the Great Boston Beer Marathon is completely different. The Great Boston Beer Marathon requires no training or preparation, except perhaps acquiring a pair of comfortable shoes and a taste for cold, frothy brews. Each of the 26 Fenway and Allston bars on the marathon map offers participants food or drink specials, with some inviting tipplers in for deals on pool and other games. The bars on the route tend to be diverse, ranging from Irish pubs to dance clubs to gastropubs. Bars can be visited in any order, and marathoners can recognize others of their ilk by their official event T-shirts, Viking hats, and the phantom pint-raising motion they make when they’re nowhere near a beer. The Great Boston Beer Marathon is a party with a purpose; attendees can spread good cheer and enjoy themselves, knowing that proceeds help support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
