Housed in the historic Flour Mill on the north bank of the Spokane River, The Kitchen Engine is a locally owned and operated specialty kitchen store that hosts cooking classes taught by local chefs and edibles enthusiasts. The schedule features a bevy of upcoming instructional opportunities, with hands-on classes allowing students to make and eat food and presentation-style classes equipping students with recipes and samples of the finished fare. Emerge from the cocoon of your sleeping bag to wrap yourself around the 90-minute sushi-making session ($40), with a sushi kit included, or take a break from penning your opera about the Marianas Trench to learn the spiced-up secrets of barbecue ribs with the 90-minute Bone-Suck’n Ribs! class ($35), taught by chef Landon Dalessi of G.W. Hunters. Members of the clean-plate club can skip straight to dessert with a 90-minute Apple Tarte Tatin class ($25), where fresh local Greenbluff apples will be smothered into cinnamon-y and sugary submission inside a flaky pie crust.
