A boxer’s feet flit across the sandy-brown canvas of Atlas Boxing Club's ring as his head bobs and his shoulders weave to misdirect his opponent just before throwing an unexpected left cross. All the while, coach Adrian Teodorescu shouts instructions from the corner. He does this regularly with fighters seeking higher levels in the pro circuit, turning amateurs into battle-hardened boxers using his extensive experienced as a Canadian Olympic trainer and coach.
While he tends to the pro fighters, his team of trainers leads programs designed to open the sport to everyone with recreational and amateur classes. During sessions, aspiring boxers skip rope, pummel the heavy bag, and toss medicine balls back and forth before returning them to the giant Advil bottle. Outside the ring, cardio machines and a fully stocked weight room stand at the ready to whip pugilists into shape. The gym also hosts occasional live boxing events.
