Sweet guitar licks and even sweeter waves welcome guests to Surf Rodeo, a combined surf and music festival that takes over the beach and shuts down all of Seaward Avenue in the spirit of summer fun. More than 70 vendors sell products from surfboards to jerky, while beer gardens keep audiences refreshed between sets from 25 different bands.
As the music plays from two stages, a different spectacle unfolds out on the water. Surfers, including both kids and adults, ride waves to the delight of the crowd. The competitions range from traditional tests of skill to wacky feats—such as the greased pig contest, during which surfers must paddle around markers while staying atop boards covered in oil.
