The shipping was high, so the savings was minimal. I can buy locally cheaper.

The items were as ordered and fine, the shipping was way more than from other suppliers, the order was about 10 yeast packets, a total weight of about 4 oz. The box was charged at 3lbs, cost about $15 to ship. I can get 25lbs of grain from any other supplier for $7.99 shipping. I understand that it's their right to treat the shipping charges as a way to make money, but now that I am aware of their policy, I will not order from them again.

The grains that were included in the kit were not crushed, making me have a seperate trip to a wine/beer shop to use their crusher.

S&H is a total ripoff when using a groupon

I cannot recommend Beer and Wine Hobby for the average user due to shipping prices. Their offer of reduced shipping is not valid when using a Groupon, and--in addition--they do not allow the cost of shipping to be covered by Groupon. If you plan on ordering anything other than yeast, hops or other low-weight items, the "savings" of the Groupon quickly evaporates due to exorbitant shipping. While I knew their promotional shipping was not valid with Groupon, I was blindsided due to not being able to pay for shipping with Groupon funds. Because of this I had to pay an extra $15 that I had not intended; had I known this, I would have simply gone to my local store.

I reviewed their website prior to purchasing the Groupon to see that their prices were reasonable AND to look at their shipping policy/ pricing. They offered a flat-rate shipping of $7.99 for under 25 pounds - very much in line with other beer supply stores. However, when I went to use the Groupon, they pointed out that "standard shipping rates apply" meant I would pay $17 ground shipping for an item that weighed less than 1 pound. I feel that their website shipping information combined with the lack of specifics on the Groupon were very misleading and that they charged an outrageous amount for shipping. I wouldn't recommend their Groupon.
