Situated on the ground floor of an old brownstone, Dopo East Ristorante Italiano invites guests to make themselves at home amid its cozy interior. Diners sip wines from the restaurant's expansive cellar as they settle into long, yellow-ocher banquettes accented by soft, slouchy pillows. Once they've gotten comfortable, visitors can peruse the menu of regional Italian dishes. Although its offerings change seasonally, they are always well balanced. For example, the richness of braised, spicy sausage is kept in check with the tartness of broccoli raabe, and the tender lamb shank is placed on a bed of fragrant saffron risotto. For dessert, crack into a cannoli filled with mild ricotta, served Sicilian-style with fruit candies, or the house's signature tiramisu, each of which is secretly autographed by the chef every night.
