This course will provide a study of 17th century England, focusing on the Stuart monarchies and the English Civil War. We will explore the reigns of James I, Charles I, the Interregnum under Oliver Cromwell, then the restoration of Charles II, James II, William and Mary, and Anne.

The Evolution of a Superpower - Ancient Rome
In this course, we will examine ancient Rome's rise to power, questioning why and how it was able to dominate Italy and then the Mediterranean basin, as well as much of the Middle East and northern Europe. We will explore how it maintained order and what implications that undertaking held for its own social and political systems.
Creative Writing: Writing and the Fine Arts
This class explores creative and reflective expression through close attention to a different artwork each week. Four paintings, four sculptures, and four songs from different epochs will be our companions and inspiration over the course of the semester.
Philosophy and the Literature of Existence
A philosophy that focuses on the concrete life conditions and experiences of the individual, such as Existentialism or Personalism, finds its best expression in the storytelling of creative fiction.
