The goal of the course is to explain the nature of this music through the analysis of compositions by major musicians of that era: Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, etc. Any musician who wants to understand and play jazz today has to know the language of Bebop.
Jazz Improvisation and Theory 1
Learn the fundamentals of music - melody, harmony, bass and rhythm - will also be explored through improvisation via scales, chords, linear and harmonic sequences, song forms, meters, grooves and feels, phrasing, articulation, and much more.
Jazz Improvisation and Theory 2
In The Jazz Improvisation and theory workshop we provides students with the vocabulary and understanding of jazz music theory that is needed to begin improvising with conviction and musicianship. Without the ability to put words together a language cannot be spoken.
Polyrhythm and Mixed Meter Class
In this class you will work through a variety of rhythmic principles inspired by today's Jazz compositions and influenced by rhythmic concepts found in South Indian, North Indian and African music. We will work on accent points, groupings, mixed meter principles and polyrhythm.
Modern Jazz Ensemble
This workshop is geared towards intermediate and advanced musicians looking to explore the musical compositions of the most influential musicians of the Modern Jazz repertoire.
