What You'll Get
Flying is a lot like having a staring contest—even with utter concentration, you’ll never be better at it than birds. Go toe-to-beak with our winged companions with this voucher.
Choose from Three Options
- $363 for a 30-minute magic hour helicopter tour over New York City for two (a $550 value)
- $363 for a 60-minute piloting experience for one with a guest (a $490 value)
- $349 for 60-minute aerial photography flight for one
The NYC tour is offered daily from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. (magic hour time changes throughout the year); the piloting experience is offered daily between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. (last appointment time is at 1 p.m.).
The experiences, which Westchester Magazine recently highlighted as a creative date idea, grants passengers stunning aerial views of Central Park, Yankee Stadium, the Manhattan skyline, and the East River bridges, all of which are all the more striking set against a colorful sunset. The tour also highlights Westchester landmarks, including the nearby Rockefeller Estate of Kykuit and the Hudson Palisades. The 30-minute tour does not reach the Downtown Manhattan/Statue of Liberty area. Please contact Wings Air Helicopters to extend the tour to 45 minutes to see Lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty for an additional fee. Wings Air’s helicopters seat up to six passengers. Children younger than 2 years old may fly at no cost if they can safely fit on one of their parent’s laps. A minimum of two passengers per tour is required. These tours are not private and passengers may be paired with other people.
During the private-pilot experience, a piloting instructor first teaches the student basic flight controls, flying techniques, and safety procedures in a training session that takes place on the ground. After taking off, the instructor hands over control of the helicopter, letting students soar over Westchester County, the Hudson River, and the coastlines of Hudson Valley, New York and Connecticut, all the while enjoying views of the Manhattan skyline in the distance. Lessons are not permitted in New York City airspace due to regulations. Private lessons allow one student to fly the helicopter and one guest passenger to ride along. 60-minute experiences consist of ground school and approximately 30 minutes in the air. For an additional fee customers may purchase a DVD of their flight footage, filmed by an on-craft Go Pro camera.
The 60-minute aerial photography takes place in an open-door helicopter. The package provides unobstructed aerial views of New York City, covering major landmarks such as Central Park, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, and more. Photographers can even request other landmarks (as long as they’re not in a restricted area and can fit within the one-hour window). Up to three fliers are grouped together per flight. Flights require a minimum of 2 passengers to operate.
During the tour, guests wear seat belts for safety while wrist straps or neck straps are a must for cameras or smartphones. No prior experience is required. All window seats in Robinson R44 helicopters. Flights are available 7 days a week, weather and aircraft maintenance permitting. Open door flights are not conducted in extremely cold temperatures.
