Hall's is in a beautiful historic location on a scenic back road. Don't get discouraged when you think you missed it; keep going! It's well worth the trip!

I originally dined at Hall's over a year ago and was not impressed. Saw that it was under new management and the menu was revamped so I decided to give it another shot. I thought the food was much more presentable and overall taste was better but some of the dishes were crossed out on menu, which looks a little tacky, and we were only given the dinner option during lunch at noon on the Sunday we went. I think if a restaurant is going to open during lunch they should give the patron the option to pay for and order a lunch item. Our server was very pleasant and on point and the ambiance and scenery from our table was very lovely. Do I think the food was outstanding? No.It was average. I got the crawfish cakes and although I felt they were presented nicely on the plate, they were mediocre in taste and looked more like pancakes. And for that I can't justify the cost of the dish. The slaw, however, was very unique and delicious in flavor. The potato skins we had for an appetizer were very good as well.

Shrimp and grits are delicious. Service was excellent. Steak was underdone and not tender (not a deal breaker). We will return to this restaurant. Try the bourbon barrel beer. Portion of wine was larger than usual at most restaurants. Live too far away to order takeout or delivery.

The "Smack Yo'Mama" Sauce on the Shrimp Po Boy is awesome! Go Early and Hike the John Holder Trail just off the parking lot. Great Views of Lower Howards Creek!

From Our Editors

In 1783, Captain John Holder established Holder's Tavern along the region's main thoroughfare: the Kentucky River. Now part of Hall's on the River, the site persists some 200-plus years later as a place to gather around food and drinks. Today, visitors dig into classic Southern dishes, ranging from steaks and smoked pork chops to frog legs and a seafood platter stacked with shrimp, oysters, scallops, clams, and fried ocean catfish.
