From Our Editors
Rather than oversee a tackle-filled free-for-all, the instructors at Sunshine State Lions Youth Rugby start youngsters with a contact-free version of the sport. As players focus on their running and ball-handling skills, coaches gradually introduce minimal contact during touch games. Finally, pupils attempt scrimmages of full-contact rugby, complete with tackling, rucking, and mauling, which is when a rugby player pretends to be a bear. Once students have mastered the game, Sunshine State Lions's coaches will assemble teams to compete with other local and statewide clubs.
