On Black Friday, we remember the stories recited to us by our elders reminding us to wake up before the rooster’s crow and seize the eggs before we seize the day. — Brett R., Grouponcierge
We’ve officially kicked off our second annual ancient wintertime celebration of Grouponicus – Groupon’s holiday shop featuring deals that allow shoppers to be twice as generous when gifting unique experiences for anyone on their list. Today, customers can check out unbeatable Black Friday deals from Old Navy and great local merchants nationwide. And, to help customers remember the true meaning of Grouponicus, Groupo the Bird is telling the lore of Grouponicus and giving away additional holiday cheer all through the season.
After a series of auditions amongst team members involving building structurally sound gingerbread houses and deep-knee bends at our Chicago headquarters, these three were chosen as the official Grouponcierges: gifting gurus with insider expertise on shopping trends, Grouponicus and all things gift-giving for 2011.
Throughout Grouponicus, this trio of holiday helpers will travel the country, popping into your local news stations to talk about what to buy Aunt Marjorie, surprises like Epic Deals and the quickest route to Winterland, among other festive fun.
Meet the Grouponcierges after the jump!
Brett knows merchant needs and consumer trends inside and out. Initially serving as a small business advisor on Groupon Grand Rapids, Brett now manages the San Francisco Groupon Now! team. A former Michigan State University cheerleader, Brett never fails in going, fighting, or winning. On any given weekend you can find him hanging out with buddies and stopping strangers in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood to pet their dogs. No matter where he is or what he’s doing, it’s safe to say he’s having fun and looking good doing it.
As a Customer Service Representative, Susan is the queen of consumer insight, talking to shoppers all day long. Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, she was born with a love for travel and experiencing new cultures. She’s also got a dramatic flair and, in her off time, she can be seen acting in shows throughout Chicago’s storefront theater scene. When she’s not working or rehearsing she loves to cook, bike, make up little ditties on her ukulele, or just explore all of the nooks and crannies of her favorite city.
Neil Diamond knew what he was talking about: Sweet Caroline, good times never seemed so good! Caroline Thornton is a 6’ 10” personality in a 5’ 8” frame. After serving Groupon merchants as a dedicated account rep in the Groupon Baltimore market for a year, she currently molds the brains of Groupon’s new hires as a Training Expert, with an emphasis on merchandising (gifting!) and consumer insight. An East Coaster gone Midwesterner, she appreciates the importance of both business and leisure – making her an ideal Grouponcierge this wintertime season.
Now that the secret’s out, be sure to keep an eye out for these three this season; they’ll be popping up all over the nation!
