Travel has been in high demand all of 2023, but there's good news on the horizon. As the busy summer travel season slows down, U.S. airfare prices have started to fall—down about 25% for domestic flights and 24% for international flights since June—according to analysis of CheapOAir bookings data. That trend is expected to continue, with prices bottoming out next week on or around Cheap Flights Day. 

What is Cheap Flights Day?

Wednesday, August 23, is Cheap Flights Day. On that day, our travel experts expect to see some of the lowest airfare prices of the summer and maybe even the rest of the year. That's because as demand wanes at the end of August as summer vacations end and before the holiday travel season starts, airlines tend to lower their prices to incentivize travelers to book. 

Last-minute travelers will get the best flight deals, as the lowest prices will be on trips taking place in about a four-week window at the end of August and into September.
