Easy DIY Projects While You Stay at Home

Experts seem to agree that stay-at-home orders are likely to last through the spring, and everyone is getting restless. There’s only so much sleep and TV we can catch up on. To help fill your days, the Groupon Coupons put together a list of easy DIY projects you can do in the comfort of your own home. All of our suggestions can be completed with common household tools and minimal help from others, which is important as many of us are sequestered alone or with one other person.

Hang a Gallery Wall

Hanging artwork is one of the easiest ways to transform a space. It brings in color and texture and personality, and really makes a space feel complete.

Snapfish makes it easy with its new 8”x8” custom photo tiles.  The finished tiles have a modern beveled edge and have self-adhesive magnets for easy hanging and repositioning. If you’re going for a funkier look, mix in prints and framed artwork from stores like Target or an interesting mirror from Pier 1.

Install a New Shower Head & Filter

Chemicals like chlorine in the water supply are the main reason skin and hair feels dry and brittle after a shower. A Premium Shower Filter from Pelican Water Systems can eliminate up to 96% of that chlorine. The three-stage filtration process also eliminates chloramines and other byproducts that might give your water an odor. Installation is easy too. All you need are pliers and a bucket. The whole process takes about five minutes, and you’ll have smoother, silkier skin and hair immediately.

Swap Out Cabinet Hardware

Trends change in home decor and cabinet hardware is no exception. Swapping out the knobs and pulls for a more modern color or streamlined shape will give your kitchen or bathroom (or a plain dresser) a facelift.

For the easiest installation, choose hardware that is the same size and general shape as the old ones. For example it requires more work to change a knob to pull because you’ll need two holes instead of one.

Make Over a Room with Removable Wallpaper

Also known as peel and stick wallpaper, this is a great way to make a big impact in a small entry way or bathroom without all the mess of traditional wallpaper. We like The Home Depot’s selection of bold and geometric patterns.

Removable wallpaper comes with low-tack adhesive already on the backing and you just peel it away and get started hanging. It works best on smooth, painted surfaces, but make sure to follow manufacturer instructions. Plus, if you don’t love it, it’s A LOT easier to remove. Most peel and stick wallpaper comes off easily and any leftover residue can be cleaned off with just soap and water.

Removable wallpaper is also a great addition to a boring bookcase or old piece of furniture. Just make sure you’re working on a clean, smooth surface for best results.

Make No-Sew Curtains

Just like artwork, curtains add that finishing touch to any room. But if you’ve ever looked into buying them, you know they can be expensive. Making your own is definitely an option, even if you don’t know how to sew. House Beautiful published an easy-to-follow tutorial, no sewing machine required.

You can find everything you need at any fabric store—we recommend JOANN—to find a fabric you love, fabric tape, a T square for easy measuring, and scissors.
