About Operation Warm
In 2002, Operation Warm was founded to counter one of the most unfathomable hardships of childhood poverty; the lack of adequate winter clothing. By necessity, families struggling to survive prioritize food, heat, and rent above winter clothing resulting in frequent absenteeism from school. This translates not only to forgone learning but also missed opportunities for socialization, play, and balanced nutrition provided through the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program. School attendance is as important as warmth because through education, upcoming generations will become productive, hopeful, and enterprising.
We currently distribute coats in 49 states and the District of Columbia, averaging approximately 300,000 coats annually. By the end of this year, Operation Warm will have distributed close to 1.7 million coats.
Operation Warm Coats
Our coats, (below) are designed for maximum warmth and durability, with details and styling that are “kid friendly” including deep pockets and detachable hoods. New colors and styles are selected each season. All materials are inspected to ensure they meet Operation Warm’s standards and, most importantly, are sturdy and keep children warm.
Coats are pre-packaged in boxes of six, based on size and gender, and are shipped as requested by the organizations we serve. Each box contains a variety of colors, thereby avoiding the appearance of uniforms. Inside each coat is a permanent label that says, “Made Especially for You!” with a place for the child’s name. This is one of the most popular features of our coats because it lets the child know that this coat really is “mine” and helps the school or organization identify coats after play time or recess.
