Nature at its Finest: Road Trip from Denver

When you're in a city like Denver, a place that really has it all, it's easy to stay put. There's endless hiking, mountains, breweries, friendly faces, shopping, global cuisine, Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, baseball, and more. But another great thing about Denver is how close it is to some of the country's most incredible natural wonders! Groupon Coupons and Sixt Car Rental teamed up to put together this must-do road trip to add to your list.

Leg 1: Head northwest to Rocky Mountain National Park and explore the wonder that is basically Denver's backyard. (67.6 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes)

Leg 2: Next stop: a quick recharge in Glenwood Springs. (197 miles, 3 hours 45 minutes)

Leg 3: Keep driving southwest to experience the secluded, desert canyon glory of Blanding, Utah. (273 miles, about 4 hours 10 minutes)

Leg 4: Finish with a drive northeast through Rio Grande National Forest to Colorado Springs. (about 500 miles, 7 hours 30 minutes)

Rocky Mountain National Park

Hike, canoe, camp, swim, fish, raft, and explore the wonder in Denver's backyard. Rocky Mountain National Park, situated on the Continental Divide, is the perfect adventure destination for solo wanderers, friend groups, and families of all ages. Experience surreal wildlife on Trail Ridge Road, take a stroll around Bear Lake for stunning vistas, or grab your adventure pal (and maybe a professional) and climb the Keyhole Route. For minorly important details, like sleeping and eating, go the comfort route and stay in one of the many options just outside the park, or go full-nature and check out one of the five campgrounds in the park.

Glenwood Springs

After spending some quality time with nature, spend some quality time on rejuvenation in Glenwood Springs. Visit the acclaimed Hot Springs Pool, choose from several farm-to-table restaurants, and enjoy a glass of wine with a view at one of the many lodges, inns, or bed and breakfast locations sprinkled around town.

Blanding, UTah

For a final adventure that is truly off the beaten path, trek through the lands of the ancient Anasazi civilization. Take a guided tour by land or by river, bike to ruins, and watch the sun set over Mule Canyon and Monument Valley. Learn about the history of this region while taking in natural beauty unlike anywhere else on Earth. The town of Blanding is filled with family restaurants and rustic, homey hotels and cabins just a stone's throw away from your daily activities. There is one thing you will not find in Blanding … crowds of people!

Colorado Springs

Wash the sand out of your hair and enjoy local breweries and wineries in Colorado Springs, located just over an hour south of Denver. Colorado Springs is chock-full of museums, spas, good food, and adventure. Choose from a hike at Pikes Peak to shopping in one-of-a-kind boutiques. It's the perfect place to recharge before heading back to Denver and beyond. Cheers!
