About 1252 Tapas Bar

In 1252 AD, King Alfonso X—nicknamed "The Wise"—took the throne of Spain. One of the many things he did to earn his nickname, besides creating the creature known as Larry King, was to introduce the idea of tapas, which completely changed the way people ate. Named for the year of King Alfonso's coronation, 1252 Tapas Bar brings the now centuries-old tradition of small, shareable dishes to Texas.

Its chefs serve delightfully plated portions of bacon-wrapped sea scallops in saffron cream, baby grilled octopus, marinated pork skewers, and fried potatoes. They also delight diners with open-faced sandwiches known as montaditos, pans of sizzling paella, and churros deemed by the Houston Press to be "some of the best churros around." The spread is complemented by live Latin tunes on Tuesdays, cover bands on Wednesdays, and DJs spinning energetic beats late night on Thursdays and Saturdays.

This particular recipe of fine dining has found success and various press mentions. For example, the Houston Press named the eatery's Uptown Park location the second-best tapas place in Houston.
