If you haven’t put on a leotard since taking Introduction to Trapeze in college, or have always “felt” like you were allergic to exercise, then perhaps it’s time for a paradigm shift. Exercise is good times! What doesn’t sound fun about bouncing on a trampoline and playing with balls while you make new friends? Lucky for Boston women - but not for Boston men (sadface) - there’s Healthworks Fitness Centers for Women, which is offering the deal of the day - nay, week - with today’s Groupon: 24 classes at their gym for only $19. That’s 90% off the $200 value!
If you’ve never been to a Healthworks gym before, today’s Groupon is just for you (sorry, regulars). It gets you a “class pass,” which lets you attend classes at any of Healthworks’ five locations: Back Bay, Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, or Salem. You can also use the locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms and whirlpools. Work out, then relax in the bubbling waters and daydream about how good you’ll look when bathing suit season rolls around. And because Healthworks is women-only, Larry Leering and Stanley Stare-Master won’t be around to ogle you as you bust the moves.
The only problem you’ll have is deciding which classes to take. A sampling:
TGIF Yoga: specifically designed to re-energize you for your weekend. (Group singalong of The Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited” is not included.)
Body Express: a 30-minute muscle conditioning class. Much healthier than that pit stop at Panda Express for jumbo egg rolls.
20/20/20: Two different 20-minute cardio exercises, followed by 20 minutes of muscle conditioning. A world apart from sitting on the couch, watching plain ol’ 20/20 with a bowl of popcorn in your lap and waiting for the investigative reports to increase your heart rate.
FORZA: In this class based on Japanese sword-fighting techniques, participants train with a wooden sword. Bring your personal assistant/samurai for extra fun.
Mommy & Me: Unless you’re an infant, don’t ask your mom to join you at this class, because it’s for mothers and their babies.
Healthworks also offers every type of cardio, yoga and Pilates you can imagine, plus lots of spin, boxing, and dance classes. Take 24 yoga classes, or one session of each class.
Yelpers love Healthworks Fitness Centers for Women, giving each locations 4.5 or five stars (out of five):
- “I love the classes here and they really challenge every part of your body. The kickboxing really works out my hips, muscles that I didn’t know I had. The strength, body defining classes are always a challenge every week. And all the classes increase your heart rate, incorporating cardio & strength.” -Lisa D.
- “The classes are amazing. I have done a rebounding class (Jumping on trampolines for a half hour?! Hello awesome!), a cardio dance class (so ridiculously fun, especially with a friend), and a smart bells (which I prefer to call magic bells) class. So the magic bells class sort of killed me, as I wasn’t prepared for all that squatting. But I can tell that I will soon be in the best shape of my life!” –Kara S.
- “I wouldn’t go to any gym ever if Healthworks didn’t exist. That’s not hyperbole, that’s fact… For me, there is nothing at Healthworks that is intimidating. In fact, I feel like I can do just about everything there. I can adjust the classes to my fitness level or go at it and fail and who cares? I’ll just do something else next time.” –Meghan M.
Dust off those gym shoes and get to your nearest Healthworks gym. Oh, you don’t even own gym shoes? Well that’s OK - they’re not required for yoga and Pilates! There’s no way you’re getting out of this Groupon.
