Though mostly known for dazzling truffles and treats, chocolate shops are also valued as refuges for majestic confectionaries such as the Chocolate Bunny, the Chocolate Lab, and the Chocolate Ruffled Condor. Today’s Groupon gives you the keys to the chocolate kingdom: for $20, you get $40 worth of chocolates galore from 5th Avenue Chocolatiere. Choose between redeeming online or in the flesh at 5th Avenue Chocolatiere's Midtown Manhattan location on Third Avenue.

Since 1973, 5th Avenue's chocolatiers have trekked deep into the forests of Belgium to lure the most flavorful cocoa beans from their nests using traps baited with homemade caramel, fresh fruits and nuts, and whole butter and cream. Resulting boxes of signature truffles contain decadent shells of rich milk or dark chocolate that protect silky cores of amaretto, coconut, raspberry, tiramisu, strawberry, champagne, and more (starting at $20 for 8 oz.; up to $50 for 32 oz.). Sweet teeth seeking some crunch and chew with their chocolate can survey 5th Avenue's assortment of cashew clusters, almond bark, and chocolate-covered macadamias, backed by a parade of peanut butter, caramel, and raspberry crèmes (starting at $15 for 8 oz.; up to $40 for 32 oz.). All orders are customizable to appropriately sate milk or dark cravings, with white, clear, and invisible chocolate available for certain products.

Chocolates normally have a long shelf life, but 5th Avenue Chocolatiere creations are likely to only stay on the shelves for minutes or hours (due to deliciousness—not extreme chemical volatility). To combat rapid consumption rates, Chocolatiere’s chocolatiers create new batches each morning, ensuring freshness every day of the week, even on Sysadmin Appreciation Day.

The Untrained Housewife featured 5th Avenue Chocolatiere and its famous truffles. More than 20 Yelpers give the business an average of 4.5 stars and it has more than 500 Facebook fans:

  • The truffles I sampled had great presentation and an amazing taste, so rich and creamy that they honestly melted in my mouth. I found it was fun to eat them both cold and straight from the refrigerator and also to let them come to room temperature to allow for the melting sensation. – JennT, The Untrained Housewife
  • The Cocoa Covered Truffles are AMAZING!! I order them up for any special occasion. Perfectly packaged and shipped across the country to California. You seriously can't beat it. – Nick L., Yelp, 10/1/10

5th Avenue Chocolatiere

Since 1973, 5th Avenue Chocolatiere's confectioners have risen before the rooster's crow to handcraft all natural, 100% Belgian-style chocolate into sweet treats. Created by founder John Whaley in a successful at-home experiment, signature truffles incorporate secret proportions of fresh cocoa powder, whole cream, and butter. Indulgences range from caramels to cookies, and chocolatiers mold cocoa into more than 100 shapes such as the Empire State Building and New York City Metro Card; a fungible currency for riding chocolate trains or bribing a crooked bus driver.
