74th Street Ale House
Jeff Eagan and Jeff Reich were enamored with the origin of the English public house as a community gathering place, often founded when a person opened his home (and beer supply) to his neighbors. In 1991, inspired by Seattle's thriving microbrew scene, the pair decided to establish their own pub—opening the doors of three locations throughout the city. Since then, the 74th Street Ale House and its two sister pubs have fostered a sense of community among guests through helpings of American ale house cuisine, traditional English ales, and regular craft-beer events.
Each day, chef Kathy Christopher crafts lean broiled burgers, Southern-style gumbo, and sandwiches using local Cascioppo Brothers sausage and beef and organic The Essential Baking Company bread. Every Wednesday, staffers tap a firkin of locally brewed, small-batch, cask-conditioned ale from a different brewery. On the first Tuesday of each month, they feature a specialty-craft-beer barrel accompanied by a brewery representative who answers questions about the craft, such as what music they play to the beer while it ferments.
