Developing strong creative and expository writing skills can improve a child’s performance at school as well as boost his or her self-confidence. 826CHI encourages students to develop a unique writing voice and strengthen their skills of expression through tutoring and a variety of volunteer-led creative-writing programming. After a series of workshops at the Groupon office, 826CHI students authored many of the Chicago deals featured on June 28.
Every year, 826CHI publishes at least one book that draws from the collective imaginations of about 4,000 students from more than 150 Chicago public schools, spotlighting material crafted in a variety of creative-writing sessions. The best stories from 826CHI’s most recent writing programs and workshops will be compiled in the forthcoming 826CHI Compendium Vol. 3, a professionally published book that will be distributed to the student-authors and their families and sold to the public at the Boring Store on North Milwaukee Avenue. Each book costs about $5 to publish, and proceeds from book sales will help to fund and promote 826CHI’s programming, with the goal of engaging even more children in the art of writing.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help publish stories written by Chicago-area students and support 826CHI’s creative-writing programming. If G-Team members raise $500, 826CHI will be able to publish and print 100 copies of 826CHI Compendium Vol. 3. Each additional $10 raised will allow the organization to print another two books.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
