Q:

I learned to sew on a peddle run Singer. Yep I'm old. I have had a Sears Zig Zag electric since college. Yep a long time ago. I would like very much to start sewing again and was wondering if I should consider starting classes at the beginning. Please advise. Jo-Anne W

A:

I always suggest if you have been away from sewing for a while to take the SEWING MACHINE OPERATION class as a re-fresher . It's a great way to get back into sewing . But if you feel confident with operation of a sewing machine, changing the needles, all the settings and dials on a machine and you have the basic understanding of knit vs. woven fabric - then you would not need to take SEWING MACHINE OPERATION . Hope that helps. Let us know if you have further questions :) ~Erika

Q:

Hi! Do you think that to take the garment construction class you would first need to take the 2 hr intro class? Or are there more steps in between? thanks!

jennifer h.  asked on  Jun 13, 2012

A:

I would always suggest SEWING MACHINE OPERATION if you are un-able to thread and operate a sewing machine , change the needles, wind the bobbins , and over all understand all the settings and dials on a sewing machine . If you know all the above then GARMENT ALTERATIONS is a great class to take . We ask that all students enrolling in GARMENT ALTERATIONS have working knowledge of a sewing machine . ~Erika

Q:

is it true that people do not walk away with an actual tote bag b/c they are sewing on paper bags? do you have it timed correctly so that we complete a project by the end of the lesson? thx!

Vanessa  asked on  Jun 13, 2012

A:

We cut and sew one tote in the sewing machine operation class . Not all students complete one tote - but all students leave with the understanding of how a tote is constructed . Students may bring their own fabric, or we have fabric here that students can use at no extra charge. Students are also encouraged to repeat the class , and we offer 75% off on repeat classes . MAny students find that one time taking the class is a perfect introduction and move on to other classes - but that repeat discount is an option for all students who would wish to repeat. Please ask if you have further questions . ~Erika
