Q:

Hello, Do I need to have a sewing machine to take the 1st class or you'll provide with one?

Natela V.  asked on  May 31, 2012

A:

We have machines here you can use - and there is NO EXTRA FEE to use our machines . PLUS + we sell machines - and can offer payment plans to anyone interested + and we do offer 1 FREE INSTRUCTIONAL HOUR with a machine purchase. : ) That hour covers everything you need to know about the sewing machine features (button hole , blind hem, and any special machine features) .

Q:

I took a sewing class for one semester last year working on an industrial sewing machine. Do I need to take the intro class?

Trina N.  asked on  May 30, 2012

A:

If you understand how to thread and operate an industrial sewing machine i would assume you know how to thread and operate a home model sewing machine and it sounds like you would be fine taking a INTRO TO CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION CLASS. But if you feel you would like a REVIEW . . . .then take the SEWING MACHINE OPERATION class too. SEWING MACHINE OPERATION covers the basics on understanding fabric and all the machine settings /controls and needle system . Hope this answer helps - please contact us if you have other questions ~ Erika

Q:

hi there...pls advise on what class/es i ought to take. i'm interested in making home curtains w/lace trim and matchie pillows and chair cushions. i'm taking a 4-week beginner class right now and we're learning how to make a shift dress. so by the end of the classes i would have learned the basics. do you have recommendations on books for home goods or do you have some for sale at your store? i want to hit the ground running when i get there. thks.

A:

If you already are operating a sewing machine and know how to construct clothing GARMENT ALTERATIONS and BUILDING REVERSIBLE are two classes i would recommend . GARMENT ALTERATIONS is focused on technical skills such as - TAILORING, REPAIRS , HEMING (much of the info covered in GARMENT ALTERATIONS can be applied to home decor but we focus on clothing in all our classes) BUILDING REVERSIBLE is an advanced building clothing class and is a really challenging class to take but very rewarding outcome . I highly recommend the BUILDING REVERSIBLE class for someone who already knows how to build clothing . Hope this response helps. Please ask if you have more questions . ~Erika
