Let a sense of calmness drape your body like the linens of a Grecian princess by feeding yourself the grapes of today's Groupon. For $30, you get access to any five group yoga classes at 8th Street Studio, a $75 value. Bring your Groupon into the studio to receive your punch card so you can track your remaining sessions.
8th Street Studio's friendly, enthusiastic instructors are fully certified and know how to help students sweat and stretch until they're more malleable, revitalized, and reenergized than the 217 rubber rechargeable AA batteries that power the Las Vegas strip. The studio even boasts Charlotte's only certified iyengar yoga instructor, Phyllis Rollins. She endured a rigorous certification program involving years of study with senior instructors and such challenges as balancing on a totem pole for 30 days with nothing but a Talk Boy to keep her company. Iyengar yoga places great attention on body alignment as well as improving concentration and meditation while using various props from Carrot Top's 2009 HBO special.
The current lineup of classes for yoga goers of all levels is listed on the schedule. If you're new to yoga, drop in for an intro class to learn basics such as the downward dog, upward dog, and the omniscient narrator. The center offers advanced classes for the seasoned and intermediate classes for the lightly seasoned. Some classes are geared toward those with chronic illnesses, to increase healing, comfort, mobility, and ability to hear high-pitched whistles.
Yoga at all levels stretches your muscles, relieving stiffness and pain; it also increases flexibility and strength (deep core muscles support each pose), which will improve your range of motion, balance, and posture—all of which are vital to moving up in the corporate world, worming through small crevices, and swinging between jungle vines on a rope made out of whale hair.
