Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Introduce your lungs to aqueous awareness with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get a three-hour intro to scuba class (a $50 value) at A-2-Z Scuba in Puyallup. Currently, classes are scheduled on the first Friday and the first and second Saturday of every month, though the center will add more if need be. Groupon customers who take to aquatic inhabitance can also take $25 off future enrollment in A-2-Z's Open Water course.
Designed for ages 12 and up, the intro to scuba class swims students through the basics of scuba diving during an hour of classroom time, then plunges fins first into the pool for two hours of guided practice. The center's certified trainers, who are collectively responsible for A-2-Z's dive center's five-star rating from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, watch over all submerged lessons in breathing, swimming, and mastering the art of buoyancy. Classes are kept to a max of 4–6 students, granting all learners the mask-to-mask time needed to develop their underwater confidence and to neatly avoid accidental mergers into the human hive mind.
After class, resurfaced students won't be diving masters, but they'll certainly be more prepared to scuba dive for the first time or to retrieve all the wish coins from the bottom of any fountain. All students must sign a waiver three days before the class and fill out a short medical questionnaire to verify class eligibility or allegiances to Aquaman's nemesis, Ocean Master. All equipment is provided, except for swimsuits. Call ahead to schedule a class time.
