Though one could contest a work of art’s artiness, there is no debating that a well-crafted necklace is more aesthetically pleasing than a pile of old banana peels with an Austrian flag sticking out of it. Create artistic eye candy with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get any one art class (up to a $40 value) at A Work of Heart on Lincoln Avenue. The value of this Groupon can be applied toward classes costing more than $40, and you can pay the difference.
A Work of Heart is a fully stocked art studio that trains both kids and adults to maximize creativity through a variety of exciting, hands-on classes. Novice artists and creative gurus can increase their imaginative powers by taking a class taught by A Work of Heart’s talented teachers. Apprentice tailors ages 8 and up can learn the basics of mending during the Intro to Sewing class ($40), which teaches youngsters how to thread sewing machines, wind bobbins, and perform proper stitches. Students of all ages can paint, tear, and fold themselves a 5”x5” Mini Juicy Journal ($25), craft two personalized silverware-inspired pendants in the Vintage Spoon Necklace class ($30), or design a trendy Steampunk Clock ($35) out of parts scavenged from hardware stores, incapacitated tin men, and bottomless garage pits. During the Craft Rave: Midnite Madness, all species of crafters are welcome to use A Work of Heart’s plentiful tools and supplies to stamp, scrapbook, and spawn a new museum of masterpieces from 6 p.m. until midnight. Coffee and tea are included, but students can bring bottles of wine or snacks to share such as candy, grits, or filet mignon.
Inside A Work of Heart’s studio, eyes are greeted by a library of fabrics, chalks, cardstock, stencils, and enough punches to knock out an army of paper dolls in true mixed-media-art fashion. The crafty confines are equally suited for a group of family members looking for a unique outing or a gaggle of gals on an artful girls’ night out. Checkout the schedule and then call ahead to schedule your desired class.
