When envisioning a pharmacy, the word "glamorous" probably doesn't come to mind. But that's the exact quality Aaron Pietrykowski had in mind when he was conceptualizing Aaron's Apothecary, a place he wanted to model after the old-world pharmacies he had seen during his globetrotting adventures. "The great pharmacies of old were pillars of their communities in both appearance and service," Aaron says. "I have set out to recapture this moment in time and revive how glamorous and extraordinary pharmacies once were."
Indeed, Aaron's charming apothecary is a far cry from today's ubiquitously clinical pharmacies. Instead of carpeting worn down to a drab nub, customers get to walk across beautiful hardwood floors. Likewise, the softly glowing bulbs of intricate chandeliers replace the eye-tiring effects of fluorescent lighting with a more pleasing illumination. A gilded sign above the pharmacy's dark wood shelves lets patrons know where to pick up prescriptions and homeopathic and wellness products.
But Aaron's has become a beloved neighborhood spot for much more than its old-fashioned pharmacy. The shop is a veritable treasure trove of luxury beauty products: carved wooden display cases are filled with Malin + Goetz's herbal-infused body washes, Kevyn Aucoin cosmetics, and The Art of Shaving men's grooming kits. The fragrance selection blooms with high-end bottles from European perfumeries, including L'Artisan and Atelier. And like a flea-market addict's attic, there's a quirky selection of home goods, such as mustachioed corkscrews and porcelain water pitchers shaped like whales and baboons.
