Q:

Where does the discovery flight go? Any insight to the flight route, or do we get to request something specific within say 20 miles of the airport?

James D.  asked on  Dec 13, 2013

A:

We usually make a big loop around the city. We can fly somewhere else as long as it isn't more than 15 miles out.

Q:

Hi, I'm interested in the option #1 $65 for a discovery flight for two. I am a non-US citizen on work visa (H1B) and my spouse is on H4 visa. Do we need security clearance for the discover flight package? Since that package mention "two", we both like to go together and my wife will be ride in the back seat.

Tanzir M.  asked on  Dec 14, 2013

A:

You don't need to be US citizens for the discovery flight so no security clearance needed for the discovery flight.

Q:

I am an international student. Do I have to go through the entire process described on the AOPA website (copied below) before flying --including paying the $130 fee? "Verify that you have an appropriate visa. Notify the flight school that you want to begin flight training. Ensure that you have a valid email address. Create a login account on TSA’s AFSP website. Apply for training on TSA’s AFSP website. Wait for the flight school to acknowledge your training request. Pay the nonrefundable $130 processing fee per instructions emailed to you. Look for a “Preliminary Approval” email from TSA. Submit fingerprints to TSA per instructions emailed to you. Wait for TSA to notify you and the flight school of its decision. Once you have received TSA approval, start flight training! Have your photo taken by the flight school when arrive for the first day of training. "

A:

We can do the discovery flight without the security clearance but the training flight requires you to prove you are a US citizen or clear the security check. It is federal law.

Q:

Hi, will I enter the physical flight & learn hands-on or is it a classroom lesson. I want to enter the flight & would like to take off & land. Do you think it is possible? If so, we are 2 people & would like to take the intrductory flight lesson. Since it is limited to 1, we would sign-up individually. Is the discovery flight hands-on? Please let me know so we can act ASAP.

alskdj  asked on  Dec 11, 2013

A:

The flight is "hands on" .You will be doing most other flying. You can follow along with the instructor in the landing. Two people can go on the flights but only one can fly. You could buy two flights and then both could fly.

Q:

Do you need to do the discovery flight first or can you go right to the introductory flight lesson? My husband has always talked about how much he would love to learn to fly. Thx!

M N.  asked on  Dec 11, 2013

A:

You can go straight to the lesson without doing a discovery flight.
