Q:

Can you get laser hair removal treatments if you're breastfeeding?

Karine B.  asked on  May 9, 2012

A:

Laser can be done on women nursing however, you must be aware of the facts that: 1. First of all the body hormonal changes can cause changes to melanin production, causing the treatments to be more painful. 2.The second reason is that the laser zapping may cause cramps, especially when done on lower abdominal and thighs. 3. Hormones cause changes to hair growth and to skin color(melanin production). This means the laser hair removal treatment may be less effective than expected.. 4. Make sure when undergoing a laser treatment the med spa do not to use any topical anesthetics! These can absorb into the bloodstream and cause complications.

Q:

How about a man's chest (medium or large area)? Does the laser hurt? Is it permanent hair removal?

Lisa M.  asked on  May 9, 2012

A:

Laser does hurt somewhat, depending on a persons pain tolerance. However, it is very quick and the pain is only during the laser pulse, which is virtually 1 second! The pain decreases with treatments, less targets. The hair the Laser destroys is permanent, once destroyed it will not grow back. Men's full chest and stomach is a large area, upper chest only medium.
