About Academy of Natural Sciences

Visit the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University and discover towering dinosaurs, live animals and dioramas! With interactive science exhibits from around the globe, a children’s discovery center, a fossil dig and opportunities to interact with science experts, Philadelphia’s natural history museum offers surprises for all ages. Dinosaur Hall is a must-see! Meet Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the largest creatures to ever walk the Earth. Measuring up to 42 feet in length and weighing in at an estimated 7.5 tons, this impressive predator is one of many dinosaurs and other Mesozoic creatures you’ll encounter. More than 30 fossil species are represented, about half of which are full skeletal mounts; plus view dinosaur eggs, footprints, sculptures, murals, paleontologist tools and a life-size model showing the internal anatomy of a Stegosaurus. There are 35 historical dioramas in the Academy, the majority of which were created between the 1930s and 1950s. Dioramas feature animals from around the world, such as bears, lions, zebras, tigers, pandas and a moose! Outside In is the children’s discovery center where inquisitive minds of all ages can investigate animal habitats, explore science and the natural world and discover how we all have a role to play in our ecosystem.
