Artists always want muses without realizing they are a big responsibility, demanding regular walks, a ticket to every sunset, and smoothies made of old pastels and greek yogurt. Cultivate your creativity an easier way with today's Groupon to Accents in Glass in Portsmouth. Choose between two classes:

  • For $35, you get a Fundamentals of Fusing glass class (a $75 value).
  • For $35, you get a stained-glass workshop (a $50 value).

Accents in Glass teaches amateur crafters the arts of glass manipulation, instructing them in the cutting, fusing, and soldering of stunning silica pieces. Veteran glassworker Christina Eadie leads the intimate classes, which are capped at 10 students each to ensure optimum student-teacher interaction and prevent unfortunate oxygen-rationing incidents. In the three-hour Fundamentals of Fusing class, pupils construct two 4-inch square fused tiles, picking out small pieces of glass, cutting them, and then combining them into an artistic whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, like a ragtag, underprivileged high-school debate team or Voltron. The resulting artwork is perfect for use as tiles, coasters, and wall hangings, lending homes or gym lockers a touch of glassy class. The basic skills learned in the session are easily applicable to the creation of larger pieces as well as jewelry, bowls, trays, and other objets d'art. After the class, students' work is kept for a week to undergo full-glass maturation, attaining permanent physical form in the kiln's flame and dealing with the psychic trauma of receiving "the talk" before remerging as stable glass companions to be picked up and enjoyed by their makers.

In the 2.5-hour stained-glass workshop, pupils learn how to cut glass, grind and foil their pieces, and solder them together to create multi-colored masterworks of comely chromatic variegation. Using precut beveled glass, students will have the opportunity to create four pieces to hang in bedrooms, kitchens, and backyard guest-monasteries. Pieces are fully finished by the end of each class and ready to take home. Aspiring glass crafters can check the calendar before reserving their spot.
