Accents in Glass teaches amateur crafters the art of glass manipulation, instructing them in the cutting, fusing, and soldering of stunning silica pieces. Veteran glassworker Christina Eadie leads the intimate classes, which are capped at 10 students each to ensure optimum student-teacher interaction. In the three-hour Fundamentals of Fusing class, pupils construct two 4-inch square fused tiles. Students first pick out small pieces of glass before cutting and combining them into an artistic whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, much like a ragtag high-school debate team or Voltron. The resulting artwork is perfect for use as tiles, coasters, and wall hangings, lending homes or gym lockers a touch of glassy class. The basic skills learned in the session are easily applicable to the creation of larger pieces as well as jewelry, bowls, trays, and other objets d'art. After the class, students' work is kept for a week to undergo full-glass maturation, attaining permanent physical form in the kiln's flame and dealing with the psychological trauma of receiving "the talk" before they remerge to be picked up and enjoyed by their makers.

The Fusing Night workshop encourages graduated glasscutters to sample a slew of new topics after successful completion of the fundamentals course. Participants get free reign over tools, materials, and a 6" x 6" slab of kiln space, all used to meld glass pieces into compositions artistic enough to don two-dimensional berets and not be a spy. Students can check the calendar before reserving their spot.

I loved my Fundamentals in Fusing Class, and even though Dan was wearing many "hats" while his wife was away, he did a great job guiding us through the steps needed for us to understand the basics and make 2 beautiful projects. I am very happy with the outcome and will be back, with friends!
