Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

Will they transfer 8mm film onto DVD?

Susan S.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

This deal only applies to 8mm VIDEO...that being said, we do have the ability to transfer old film projector 8mm reels. Our process is unique in that we transfer frame-by-frame into a computer where we make speed and color adjustments too. The results are stunning and all pricing can be found online at http://www.actionvideoservice.com/filmtransfer.shtml ~ but again, this deal is only for video tape and not film. Regardless, if you would like to bring it by my shop...we'd be happy to give you an estimate. We literally transfer millions of feet of film per year.

Dagmar S.  asked on  Jan 19, 2013

A:

Well, the deal has already sold out ~ it went faster than even our summer special. We can transfer foreign tapes at $39.99/ea up to 2-hours in length, however, this deal was only for NTSC (US Standard) tapes.

Q:

I have VHS Tape but they are in PAL system. Can you convert that to DVD in NTSC (USA) here so I could watch.

Rajiv S.  asked on  Jan 18, 2013

A:

While we CAN handle PAL tapes in our studio...this deal is for NTSC (US standard) tapes only. Pricing is $39.99 per tape up to 2-hours for a foreign transfer from PAL to NTSC.

If you bring them in we can definitely discuss options.

Q:

#1. Some of my 8mm videotapes do not have 2 hours of video on them. I see that the $12 price includes just the one tape, but your website also says that you can add more than video from multiple videotapes on to one DVD, at a cost of $10 per each additional video tape. Will I qualify for the same $10 additional videotape rate with this $12 Groupon? #2. I have no way to view my 8mm videotapes, so I don't know how long each is. What happens when a videotape (or the combination of videotapes) to be transferred to DVD exceeds two hours? Thanks!!

Rachel K.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

To answer your questions...if you had (2) tapes it's not an extra $10 per tape, but the pricing is as follows: $24.99 (tape 1) + $10 combination + $24.99 (tape 2)....if you had extra tapes...you would add another $24.99 + another $10 combination charge. It takes more time to do this, which is why we have to charge extra for the added labor on our part. The typical client opts for 1 tape to 1 DVD. Each Groupon could be applied for each tape, but the combination charge would still apply in each case. If a tape is over 2 hours, then we span it to another disc...pricing is $24.99 (or another Groupon voucher). Keeping a disc under or at the 2 hour mark keeps the best quality. If a client had a VHS tape that was over 2 hours...we always time the tapes and we contact the client to see if they would like the additional time over 2 hours to another DVD.

Q:

I have different size cassettes and i don't know if they are 8mm or not. Can you transfer from all the cassettes that cameras have used in the past 30 years. I would like to go ahead and get as many sessions as possible but have no idea how many hours I have on them. I can't get them out of the safety deposit box until tomorrow to find out. If they are not the correct size for this can the groupon be used toward the price of doing the size that I do own? Last time the groupon expired on me before I bought and I don't want to miss out again.

kathy f.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

Yes, pretty much any tape that exists, we have the equipment to transfer here at the studio. The deal is for for 1 tape to 1 DVD (up to 2 hours in length). If it's a home movie type of videotape then we can probably handle it.

Q:

I have several 8mm tapes that have countless hours of my son's soccer games. Is there a way to view what we want to keep and just transfer to DVD without having to sit through the whole video?

Becca M.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

We do have a viewing station for video tape...the pricing is $35 per hour (whether you're here for 5 minutes or 55 minutes) ~ that being said, this deal is a straight transfer of the entire tape (up to 2-hours in length) to DVD. What many of our clients do is transfer the entire tape initially at the set price...then they watch it on their player and notate the IN/OUT times they want to keep using our logsheet ~ http://www.actionvideoservice.com/logsheet.pdf By doing this, it does become an editing project where the pricing is based at $75/hr ~ but it does allow you to get exactly what you want edited into a tighter format. It's just more time-consuming, so it cost more.

Q:

How long will this offer be open on Groupon (days)? Need time to find tapes and see how many we need to buy.

Dorinda B.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

We ran a deal back in July '12 and it sold out (500) in a little over 24-hours. The cap for this round is not much higher...but at the rate we're going I'd anticipate it will do the same. I will say that GROUPON is really good about reimbursements...so even if you bought and didn't use it they'll give you a refund (at least that's what I've experienced).

Q:

Can you mail the VHS tape you want converted to a DVD? We live in Keller and I am never near Richardson.

sarah w.  asked on  Jan 17, 2013

A:

Yes, you can mail it (just make sure to include all your information both for shipping and any contact information ~ phone/email, etc). Also, just a note that the deal is for up to 2-hours for one tape...VHS (has the ability) to record up to 6 hours on a single tape (if it was recorded in Extended Play). When it goes over the 2-hour mark we span it across a new disc for $24.99 per 2-hours. If you would like to pick it up, once transferred...that's fine or you can pay shipping back to you (typically around $10 or so). Also, GROUPON does NOT cover tax...so a single transfer will still have .99 cents tax applied. Cash only for anything under $5.00. Thanks!
