Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

I have 8mm movies that I would like to have transferred. Will this Groupon coupon work for 8mm?

Cecelia I.  asked on  Jul 26, 2013

A:

Hello Cecelia ~ I'm assuming you're referring to 8mm film (reels which you needed a projector to be able to view from the 1920s-80s)? While yes, we *DO* transfer 8mm, Super8mm, and 16mm film, this Groupon deal does not cover film...only videotapes as the conversion of film is a much more complex process. Our process for film is unique in that we scan your film *ON SITE* (it never leaves our studio) and in a frame-by-frame process where it is captured directly into a computer in either Standard Definition or we even have a HD capture version available too! Film is then either output to a DVD or a user-provided external harddrive. Once captured, we can adjust the speed and do basic color correction. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to come by our studio M-F 9am-6pm or Saturday 9am-1pm at 819 W Arapaho, Suite 23 (1 mile west of Central Expressway in the Tom Thumb Shopping Center area...about 6 doors down from Tom Thumb). You can also call us at 972-437-2021 or email info@actionvideoservice.com if you have any further questions.

Q:

I have one VCR tape that I would like to be put on 4 DVD disks. How many Groupons do I need to purchase if I'm going to have these done in one visit?

Cecelia I.  asked on  Jul 30, 2013

A:

Hello Cecelia ~ Each Groupon covers (1) videotape up to 2 hours in length...so if it was under 2 hours...then just one Groupon. However, you *cannot* apply the Groupon to the extra copies as this is a different service. 2-9 copies would be $8.29/ea.

Q:

Do you allow people to use your equipment to convert their own VHS tapes?

Debbie R.  asked on  Jul 29, 2013

A:

Hello Debbie ~ We do not have stations for clients to transfer media on their own. All media is dropped off at our studio location and we handle all the conversions in house in a timely manner.

Q:

I have 10 VHS-C Camcorder video cassetttes. Can you tell me how many of the Groupons I would need to buy to have these put on disk? How long does it take to get back?

Diana J.  asked on  Jul 28, 2013

A:

Hello Diana ~ Each tape would require a Groupon voucher. Everything is done in the order we receive them and since Groupon promotions are by far our busiest time, I'd anticipate within a week or so, but it always depends on our workload. In many cases, our turnaround time is faster than quoted.

Q:

I have some old children's movies on VHS that I would like transferred to DVD. Is that possible, or would that run into copyright issues?

Deborah A.  asked on  Jul 28, 2013

A:

If it's copyrighted and you don't have permission, then no, we won't transfer it.

Q:

What cost am I looking at to have 50....3 inch diameter Super 8 film converted to DVD...thank you.

Jerry M.  asked on  Jul 26, 2013

A:

Hello Jerry ~ The Groupon deal does not cover Super 8 film, but to answer your question as this *IS* one of our services...what you have are 50 foot reels which run around 3 minutes and 30 secs each. A quick estimate is $14.50/per reel (if they're all 50' reels), but all pricing can be found online at http://www.actionvideoservice.com/filmtransfer.shtml ~ All film is processed *ON SITE* and captured frame-by-frame into a computer. Feel free to bring them by the studio and I can give you an accurate estimate on what you have.

Q:

I have several small VCR-C tapes and many of them only have 30 min. on them. Will this groupon cover 2 hours even if they are on several tapes?

Sherri B.  asked on  Jul 26, 2013

A:

Hello Sherri ~ Each Groupon voucher is good for 1 tape (up to 2 hours in length) to its own DVD...not a combination of numerous tapes to equal 2 hours. The process to "combine" tapes requires more labor, so to keep the pricing at a minimum and with the Groupon deal specifically it's 1 tape to 1 DVD (up to 2 hours...as some VHS tapes can be upwards of 6 hours long and in that case would require 3 vouchers to cover all 6 hours). We *can* combine tapes, but the pricing is more and would still require multiple Groupon vouchers to cover each tape. Fee free to call us at 972-437-2021 if you have any further questions.
