Great questions Beverly! Always consult with your healthcare professional first before beginning any type of exercise program. That said, bulging discs and lower back injury CAN be alleviated with some of the the stretches found in yoga. Certain stretches and movement have been proven to alleviate lower back pain and actually cause the discs to reduce in size.
It's important to listen to your body and please do not attempt to do any movement that causes a significant, sharp increase in pain. Do them slowly and pay attention to the changes in pain characteristics during the exercise. If you notice reduced pain with a certain movement, then continue.
