For new clients, Bowenwork appointments include intake, a physical assessment, treatment plan, and finally, Bowen therapy. This unique type of bodywork involves the practitioner using their hands to administer gentle but powerful movements that can bring pain relief in the first session (length varies for each person). The office is open Monday—Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For years, chronic pain plagued Mark Rogers. He’d tried everything—visits to the chiropractor, traditional bodywork, even back surgery. But it wasn’t until he stumbled upon Bowen therapy that he finally found relief. Originating in Australia, Bowenwork shares few characteristics with other forms of bodywork. Instead of subjecting the body to forceful realignment, the methodology incites self-healing with precise movements aimed at the muscles, tendons, and nerves. During a typical session, the Bowen practitioner will deliver these moves in a series of patterns using their fingers and thumbs to find and release tight muscles and tendons that pull the body out of alignment and cause pain—stepping out between each series to allow the brain and body time to process the effects. Bowen Therapy is performed over loose clothing, as the practitioner works with clients as they are lying on a treatment table, sitting, and even standing. Within an hour, some clients will feel a reprieve from afflictions ranging from back pain and sports injuries to asthma. Mark—a licensed massage therapist of 20 years—also specializes in post-concussion symptoms and issues with infertility. According to Mark, the majority of clients notice a change for the better within three to five sessions.
