What You'll Get
Mankind's feeble climbing skills and inability to digest delicious tin cans are two ways in which evolution left humans inferior to goats. Channel an inner mountain goat with today's Groupon: for $65, you get a full-day introductory rock-climbing experience from Adventure Forever (a $130 value).
Adventure Forever corrals curious climbers at a designated meeting place, then leads a 20-minute drive and short hike to a variety of climb sites dubbed with such monikers as Home Cliff, Copacabana, Down Under, and Eastern Block. There, experienced instructors certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides outfit climbers with all the gear needed to tackle nature's gnarly landscapes and bad-day tantrums before leading climbing excursions. Climbers may wear their own athletic shoes or rent climbing shoes ($5) to experience the multiplicity of the cliffs’ granite surfaces, including slab climbs—rock faces with an angle of less than 90 degrees—which reward sprawling surmounters with breathtaking valley views. Climbers should bring a lunch and enough water for the nearly six-hour trip or can gamble on the spotty service of mountain hot-dog vendors.
